What an awesome blog to run across. Your information has been very helpful. One question…what time of year did you do this trek?
Thanks in advance,
Jen

Hi Richard! The descent is fairly steep, though what makes it complicated is that it is constantly steep with minimal flats, putting a lot of pressure on your knees. I recommend bringing high quality knee braces as you can only buy quite cheap ones on the trail. As you are going in the next month which is the high season the tea shop should be open and horses should be available, I did it in one of the quieter months. Also I have had previous issues with hiking downhill and my knees in the past. If you would like send me through an email ( backpackerswanderlust@hotmail.com ) as I have a pdf version of the Annapurna circuit guide book I can send you. It has heaps of info and will help you prep for your journey :)

Having read your post would really like some additional information on your descent from the pass. I am doing this walk next month and one thing I’m worried about is the descent from the Pass down to Mukthina. My knees really don’t like steep descents and I suffer as you seem to have done when descents are steep. Is it very steep? Had you experienced difficulty previously or was this the first time this has happened to you? If you haven’t had problems previously and this happened I am going to struggle. It won’t stop me going but just wonder if you had problems already with your knees. Also do you know how long it would take to walk to muktinha which is where I will be stopping after the pass. I’m going to look out for the offers of horse rides down as you mentioned, And just hope they are there and appear not too far down. Thanks for any feedback
